What does the AI keep from my photo, and what does it draw?
An Instagram journey AI photo keeps your face and outfit and draws the receipt around them. Instagram Journey AI splits the work in three: your photo, your typed numbers, and the style. Make a set of 4 from one picture.
What it keeps from your photo
The picture you upload supplies the person: the face, the hair, the shoulders and the clothes. The goal is that the print at the top still looks like you. In the Classic Receipt style it is turned into grainy black and white, and in Color Print it stays in colour. A sharp, evenly lit, front-facing photo keeps the most, which is why the journey trend photo page spends time on what to upload.
What it draws
Everything that makes the picture look like a receipt is drawn by GPT Image 2.5: grey thermal paper, the torn zigzag edge, the monospaced letters with dotted leaders, the holographic stickers, the blue ballpoint circle with "omg", and the surface and light around the paper. The style you pick decides these choices. A crumpled receipt taped to a wall looks nothing like a clean white one, yet both carry the same lines. Browse them on the styles page.
What only you supply
The model never guesses your numbers. You type your @handle, the year you joined, and your posts, followers and following. They are checked before any credit is spent and printed as typed. Total years active is calculated from the year. Instagram Journey AI does not read your Instagram account, so nothing on the receipt comes from Instagram, and the site is independent, not affiliated with Instagram or Meta.
Where AI gets it wrong
Image models can misdraw a digit or a letter, which is why each set has 4 images to choose from. The eight common slips and their fixes are in Instagram journey receipt mistakes and fixes. For the manual alternative, read the Instagram journey AI prompt page.
