Where it came from
The clearest trail is in tutorials. The tutorial that lists the effect most completely, a Hindi-language editing tutorial, reached 6.3K views in its first day. Several other channels, including Pk Editzzzz, Its Prince and Tech Lokesh, followed within hours with their own titles: "Instagram Viral Journey Trend", "IG Receipt Effect" and "Total Years Active Photo Editing". On TikTok, a post tagged #prompt showed the same receipt on 2026-10-28. TikTok is banned in India, so much of the sharing is on Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts, with TikTok volume small.

The names changed from channel to channel, which is why the trend looks like several. Searchers lead with "ig receipt" and "instagram receipt", while tutorial titles lead with "journey" and "total years active". All of them describe one picture, so pages for each name end up answering slightly different questions about the same receipt. The markets are consistent, though: India first, then the Philippines, the United Kingdom and the United States.
What is not verified
Who started the trend is unknown. Which app the first creator used is also unknown, and there are no view counts beyond the ones above. An older "ig receipt" format on TikTok from 2024 and 2025 is an unrelated Story template, so ignore search results that point to it.
