What makes a good photo for the journey trend?
A good journey trend photo is sharp, evenly lit and shows one face clearly. It is the only picture you give Instagram Journey AI, so it sets the likeness and the mood. Upload yours and see it printed on the receipt.
Light and sharpness
Soft, even light beats everything else. Window light or open shade avoids harsh shadows that turn into dark blotches once the photo is printed grainy and grey. A sharp picture helps the likeness: blurred faces come back with invented detail. Pick the original file rather than a screenshot or a chat copy, since JPG, PNG and WebP up to 10 MB are accepted.
Framing and background
Face and shoulders in the middle works best, because the photo is cropped into a small block at the top of the receipt. Leave a little air around the head. A plain wall or sky prints cleanly, while a busy street can turn into grey noise. One person only: group shots confuse which face to keep. Sunglasses, big hats and heavy beauty filters change the face the model sees, so the result may look less like you.
Black and white or colour
The look people recognise prints the photo in black and white. If you prefer your own colours, the Color Print style keeps them while still adding the stickers and the blue pen circle. Photos with strong contrast, such as a dark jacket against a light wall, look best in black and white. Warm, bright pictures usually look better in colour. Each set has 4 images, so the same photo gives you 4 slightly different results to choose from. You can compare all looks on the styles page.
If you are unsure between two photos, make a set with each. The comparison is cheap compared with guessing, and the 4 images per set show how the same face behaves on different papers and in different styles.
Whose photo it can be
Use your own photo, or one from someone who agreed. Everyone in it must be 18 or older, and celebrities and public figures are not allowed. Instagram Journey AI deletes uploaded photos within 24 hours and never uses them to train models. It is independent, not affiliated with Instagram or Meta. Once your photo is ready, see how to make the Instagram journey photo for the rest of the inputs.
